Intended Use
The K-ASSAY® RF (Ver.2) assay is for the quantitative determination of human IgG rheumatoid factor antibodies in patient serum or plasma (citric acid, EDTA, or lithium heparin) based on immunoturbidimetric assay. The presence of IgG RF antibodies, in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests, is an aid in the diagnosis of rheumatord arthritis (RA). FOR IN VITRO DIAGNOSTIC USE. The K-ASSAY® RF Calibrator (Ver.2) is intended to be used to calibrate the K-ASSAY® RF (Ver.2) immunoturbidimetric assay. FOR IN VITRO DIAGNOSTIC USE.

No
The summary describes a standard immunoturbidimetric assay for rheumatoid factor, with no mention of AI, ML, or related technologies.

No
The device is an in vitro diagnostic assay used for quantitative determination of human IgG rheumatoid factor antibodies, aiding in diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, not for therapy.

Yes
The "Intended Use / Indications for Use" section states: "The presence of IgG RF antibodies, in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests, is an aid in the diagnosis of rheumatord arthritis (RA)." and "FOR IN VITRO DIAGNOSTIC USE."

No

The device is an in vitro diagnostic assay, which involves physical reagents and laboratory procedures, not solely software.

Yes, based on the provided information, this device is an IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic).

Here's why:

  • Explicit Statement: The Intended Use section clearly states "FOR IN VITRO DIAGNOSTIC USE" for both the K-ASSAY® RF (Ver.2) assay and the K-ASSAY® RF Calibrator (Ver.2).
  • Intended Use: The assay is designed for the "quantitative determination of human IgG rheumatoid factor antibodies in patient serum or plasma," which are biological samples taken from the body.
  • Diagnostic Purpose: The results are intended to be used "in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests, is an aid in the diagnosis of rheumatord arthritis (RA)." This indicates a diagnostic purpose.

Therefore, the device fits the definition of an In Vitro Diagnostic device.

Dear Shawn Kaplan:

We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. The 510(k) Premarket Notification Database located at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm identifies combination product submissions. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration. Please note: CDRH does not evaluate information related to contract liability warranties. We remind you, however, that device labeling must be truthful and not misleading.

If your device is classified (see above) into either class II (Special Controls) or class III (PMA), it may be subject to additional controls.
