Intended Use

The Sensititre® HP MIC Susceptibility Plate with Ceftaroline (0.004 - 8 μg/mL) and the Sensititre® 18-24 hour MIC Susceptibility System Test Panel with Ceftaroline (0.06 - 64 μg/mL) is intended for use with the Sensititre® MIC or BP Susceptibility Test System. The Sensititre HP MIC Susceptibility plate is an in vitro diagnostic product for clinical susceptibility testing of fastidious isolates. The Sensititre 18-24 hour MIC or Breakpoint Susceptibility system is an in vitro diagnostic product for clinical susceptibility testing of non fastidious isolates. This 510(k) is for the addition of the Ceftaroline in the dilution range of 0.004- 8 μg/mL to the Sensititre HP MIC Susceptibility plate for testing Streptococcus spp. and the Sensititre 18-24 hour MIC panel in the dilution range of 0.06 - 64 μg/mL for testing gram positive isolates.

Device Story

Sensititre susceptibility plates are multi-well microtiter plates containing dried doubling dilutions of antimicrobial agents. Plates are inoculated with standardized bacterial suspensions. After 18-24 hours of aerobic incubation, growth is assessed to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). The Sensititre AutoReader uses fluorescence technology to detect bacterial growth by monitoring surface enzyme activity; a fluorogenic substrate is cleaved by bacterial enzymes, releasing a fluorophore. Alternatively, plates are read manually using the VIZION system. The device is used in clinical laboratories to provide susceptibility data, which informs antibiotic treatment decisions for patients with bacterial infections. The system provides MIC values, which are compared against interpretive criteria to categorize isolates as susceptible.
