The summary describes a mechanical device for dental prostheses and contains no mention of AI, ML, image processing, or data analysis that would suggest the use of such technologies.
No
The device description indicates it is "For Providing Quick Coupling For Dental Prostheses," which is a mechanical function related to dental work, not a therapeutic treatment for a disease or condition.
No
The device description "Device For Providing Quick Coupling For Dental Prostheses" indicates a mechanical function related to dental prosthetics, not diagnosis. There is no mention of analysis, measurement, or identification of disease or conditions.
No
The device description explicitly states "Device For Providing Quick Coupling For Dental Prostheses," which strongly implies a physical hardware component for coupling. There is no mention of software as the primary or sole component.
Based on the provided information, this device is not an IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic).
Here's why:
- Intended Use / Indications for Use: This section is "Not Found," which is a key indicator of what a device is intended to do. IVDs have specific intended uses related to diagnosing diseases or conditions using samples from the human body.
- Device Description: The description "Device For Providing Quick Coupling For Dental Prostheses" clearly indicates a mechanical function related to dental work, not a diagnostic test performed on biological samples.
- Lack of IVD-related information: The absence of information about sample types, analytes, diagnostic targets, or performance metrics typically associated with IVDs further supports that this is not an IVD.
Therefore, based on the available details, this device is a mechanical device for dental procedures and does not fit the definition of an In Vitro Diagnostic.

§ 872.3640 Endosseous dental implant.
(a)
Identification. An endosseous dental implant is a prescription device made of a material such as titanium or titanium alloy that is intended to be surgically placed in the bone of the upper or lower jaw arches to provide support for prosthetic devices, such as artificial teeth, in order to restore a patient's chewing function.(b)
Classification. (1) Class II (special controls). The device is classified as class II if it is a root-form endosseous dental implant. The root-form endosseous dental implant is characterized by four geometrically distinct types: Basket, screw, solid cylinder, and hollow cylinder. The guidance document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance Document: Root-Form Endosseous Dental Implants and Endosseous Dental Implant Abutments” will serve as the special control. (See § 872.1(e) for the availability of this guidance document.)(2)
Classification. Class II (special controls). The device is classified as class II if it is a blade-form endosseous dental implant. The special controls for this device are:(i) The design characteristics of the device must ensure that the geometry and material composition are consistent with the intended use;
(ii) Mechanical performance (fatigue) testing under simulated physiological conditions to demonstrate maximum load (endurance limit) when the device is subjected to compressive and shear loads;
(iii) Corrosion testing under simulated physiological conditions to demonstrate corrosion potential of each metal or alloy, couple potential for an assembled dissimilar metal implant system, and corrosion rate for an assembled dissimilar metal implant system;
(iv) The device must be demonstrated to be biocompatible;
(v) Sterility testing must demonstrate the sterility of the device;
(vi) Performance testing to evaluate the compatibility of the device in a magnetic resonance (MR) environment;
(vii) Labeling must include a clear description of the technological features, how the device should be used in patients, detailed surgical protocol and restoration procedures, relevant precautions and warnings based on the clinical use of the device, and qualifications and training requirements for device users including technicians and clinicians;
(viii) Patient labeling must contain a description of how the device works, how the device is placed, how the patient needs to care for the implant, possible adverse events and how to report any complications; and
(ix) Documented clinical experience must demonstrate safe and effective use and capture any adverse events observed during clinical use.

Dear Dr. Grasso:
We have reviewed your Section 510(k) notification of intent to market the device referenced above and we have determined the device is substantially equivalent to devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions The general controls provisions of the Act of the Act. include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration.
If your device is classified (see above) into either class II (Special Controls) or class III (Premarket Approval), it may be subject to such additional controls. Existing major requlations affecting your device can be found in the Code of Federal Requlations, Title 21, Parts 800 to 895. A substantially equivalent determination assumes compliance with the Good Manufacturing Practice for Medical Devices: General (GMP) requlation (21 CFR Part 820) and that, through periodic GMP inspections, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will verify such assumptions. Failure to comply with the GMP requlation may result in regulatory action. In addition, FDA may publish further announcements concerning your device in the Federal Reqister. Please note: this response to your premarket notification submission does not affect any obligation you might have under sections 531 through 542 of the Act for devices under the Electronic Product Radiation Control provisions, or other Federal laws or regulations.
