Intended Use
The Self Cath® Catheter is intended for use in male, female, and pediatric patients (neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and transitional adolescents) requiring bladder drainage as determined by their physician. This device is indicated for those individuals unable to promote a natural urine flow or for those individuals who have a significant volume of residual urine following a natural bladder-voiding episode
Device Description
The Self Cath Catheter consists of a flexible PVC tube. One end of the tube has two holes (eyelets) punched into the tube. These eyelets allow urine to enter the tube and be drained from the bladder. A piece of PVC connector tubing (drain funnel) is attached to the opposite end of the PVC tube.

No
The device description and intended use describe a simple mechanical catheter for bladder drainage, with no mention of AI or ML capabilities.

Yes
The device is described as "intended for use in male, female, and pediatric patients [...] requiring bladder drainage as determined by their physician. This device is indicated for those individuals unable to promote a natural urine flow or for those individuals who have a significant volume of residual urine following a natural bladder-voiding episode," which are therapeutic applications.

No
The provided text describes a catheter used for bladder drainage, which is a therapeutic intervention, not a diagnostic one. It facilitates urine removal rather than identifying a medical condition.

No

The device description clearly states it is a flexible PVC tube with eyelets and a drain funnel, indicating it is a physical hardware device.

Based on the provided information, this device is not an IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic).

Here's why:

  • Intended Use: The intended use is for "bladder drainage" in patients who cannot naturally void or have residual urine. This is a direct intervention on the body to remove a substance (urine).
  • Device Description: The device is a "flexible PVC tube" with eyelets and a connector for draining urine. This describes a physical device used for drainage, not for analyzing a sample in vitro (outside the body).
  • Lack of IVD Characteristics: There is no mention of analyzing a biological sample (like urine) to provide diagnostic information. The device's function is purely mechanical drainage.
  • Anatomical Site: The anatomical site is the bladder, which is the target of the drainage, not the source of a sample for analysis.

IVD devices are used to examine specimens derived from the human body (like blood, urine, tissue) to provide information for diagnosis, monitoring, or screening. This device does not perform such an analysis.

Image /page/2/Picture/0 description: The image shows a stylized logo of what appears to be a bird in flight. The bird is represented by three thick, curved lines that suggest the shape of wings and a head. The lines are black against a white background, creating a simple yet dynamic design. The word "BEHAVIORAL" is written vertically along the left side of the image, in a smaller font size.
