The description focuses on image storage, transmission, and standard image processing algorithms (JPEG, wavelet). There is no mention of AI/ML techniques for image analysis, diagnosis, or prediction.
No
The device is described as a software that stores and sends digital images and data, functioning as a communication and archiving system. It does not exert any direct therapeutic effect on a patient.
No
The device is described as a software device that receives, stores, and sends digital images and data. It is explicitly stated that "Lossy compressed mammographic images and digitized film screen images must not be reviewed for primary image interpretations," and images "may only be interpreted using an FDA approved monitor." This indicates that the device itself is not intended for primary diagnostic interpretation, but rather for data management and distribution. Its function as a PACS component further supports this, as PACS systems primarily archive and transmit medical images rather than interpret them.
Yes
The device is explicitly described as a "software device" in both the Intended Use and Device Description sections. While it interacts with existing hardware and sends data to other devices with appropriate hardware, the core device being submitted for 510(k) is the software itself.
Based on the provided text, this device is not an IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic).
Here's why:
- IVD definition: IVDs are devices used to examine specimens taken from the human body (like blood, urine, tissue) to provide information for diagnosis, monitoring, or treatment.
- IMCO-STAT™ function: The description clearly states that IMCO-STAT™ is a software device that receives, stores, and transmits digital images and data from existing imaging equipment (like radiological imaging). It facilitates the viewing and distribution of these images and associated reports.
- No mention of biological specimens: There is no indication that IMCO-STAT™ interacts with or analyzes any biological specimens. Its function is centered around medical imaging data.
Therefore, IMCO-STAT™ falls under the category of medical imaging software or a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) component, not an In Vitro Diagnostic device.

Intended Use / Indications for Use
IMCO-STATTM is a software device that receives digital images and data from existing imaging equipment using DICOM 3.0 communication protocols. Images and data are stored on the IMCO-STATTM server in DICOM 3.0 Part 10 and JPEG format.
IMCO-STAT™ is designed to send reports. images, audio and video data to other workstations, Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) or Tablet PCs in wired or wireless environments. This is accomplished using an executable client application on a receiving entity with the appropriate hardware.
Lossy compressed mammographic images and digitized film screen images must not be reviewed for primary image interpretations. Mammographic images may only be interpreted using an FDA approved monitor that offers at least 5 Mpixel resolution and meets other technical specifications reviewed and accepted by FDA.

§ 892.2050 Medical image management and processing system.
(a)
Identification. A medical image management and processing system is a device that provides one or more capabilities relating to the review and digital processing of medical images for the purposes of interpretation by a trained practitioner of disease detection, diagnosis, or patient management. The software components may provide advanced or complex image processing functions for image manipulation, enhancement, or quantification that are intended for use in the interpretation and analysis of medical images. Advanced image manipulation functions may include image segmentation, multimodality image registration, or 3D visualization. Complex quantitative functions may include semi-automated measurements or time-series measurements.(b)

Dear Mr. Schwartz:
We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration.
If your device is classified (see above) into either class II (Special Controls) or class III (Premarket Approval), it may be subject to such additional controls. Existing major regulations affecting your device can be found in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Parts 800 to 898. In addition, FDA may publish further announcements concerning your device in the Federal Register.
