Intended Use
The Siemens SOMATOM P30L systems are intended to produce cross-sectional images of the body by computer reconstruction of x-ray transmission data from either the same axial plane taken at different angles or spiral planes* taken at different angles. (*spiral planes: the axial planes resulted from the continuous rotation of detectors and x-ray tube, and the simultaneous translation of the patient.)
Device Description
The Siemens SOMATOM P30L is a whole body X-ray computed tomography systems, which features a continuously rotating tube-detector system and functions according to the fan beam principle. The system software is a command-based program used for patient management, data management, X-ray scan control, image reconstruction, and image archive/evaluation.
More Information

Not Found

No
The summary describes standard CT technology and software for image reconstruction and management, with no mention of AI, ML, or related concepts.

No
The device is used for diagnostic imaging (producing cross-sectional images), not for treating diseases or conditions.

Yes
The device is described as producing "cross-sectional images of the body by computer reconstruction of x-ray transmission data". While it doesn't explicitly state "diagnosis," imaging devices like CT scanners are fundamental tools used by medical professionals to visually assess internal structures and identify abnormalities, which is a key step in the diagnostic process.

No

The device description explicitly states it is a "whole body X-ray computed tomography system," which is a hardware device. While it includes software for control and processing, it is not solely software.

Based on the provided information, the Siemens SOMATOM P30L system is not an IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic).

Here's why:

  • Intended Use: The intended use clearly states that the system is for producing cross-sectional images of the body using X-ray transmission data. This is an in vivo imaging technique, meaning it is used to examine the inside of a living body.
  • Device Description: The description confirms it's a whole body X-ray computed tomography system, which is an imaging device used on patients.
  • IVD Definition: In vitro diagnostics are tests performed on samples taken from the human body, such as blood, urine, or tissue, outside of the body (in vitro).

The Siemens SOMATOM P30L is a medical imaging device used for diagnostic purposes, but it operates in vivo, not in vitro.
