No
The summary describes a laser device for treating pigmented lesions and tattoo removal, with no mention of AI, ML, image processing, or data-driven performance metrics.

Yes
The device is intended for the "Treatment of pigmented lesions," which indicates a therapeutic purpose.

No

This device is described as a laser for the "Treatment of pigmented lesions" and "for tattoo removal," indicating a therapeutic rather than diagnostic purpose.

No

The device description explicitly states it is a "flashlamp excited Q-switched solid state laser," which is a hardware device.

Based on the provided information, this device is not an IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic).

Here's why:

  • Intended Use: The intended use is "Treatment of pigmented lesions." This describes a therapeutic application, not a diagnostic one. IVDs are used to examine specimens from the human body to provide information for diagnosis, monitoring, or screening.
  • Device Description: The device is a laser used for treatment. This is consistent with a therapeutic device, not a diagnostic one.
  • Lack of IVD Characteristics: The description does not mention any of the typical characteristics of an IVD, such as analyzing biological samples, providing diagnostic information, or being used in a laboratory setting.

Therefore, the Medlite\755 Alexandrite Laser is a therapeutic device, not an In Vitro Diagnostic.

§ 878.4810 Laser surgical instrument for use in general and plastic surgery and in dermatology.

(a)
Identification. (1) A carbon dioxide laser for use in general surgery and in dermatology is a laser device intended to cut, destroy, or remove tissue by light energy emitted by carbon dioxide.(2) An argon laser for use in dermatology is a laser device intended to destroy or coagulate tissue by light energy emitted by argon.
(b)
Classification. (1) Class II.(2) Class I for special laser gas mixtures used as a lasing medium for this class of lasers. The devices subject to this paragraph (b)(2) are exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter, subject to the limitations in § 878.9.
