The term "Intelligent" is used in the device name and description, and it's stated that this descriptor was added due to communication between the cartridges and the stapler. However, the summary does not provide enough detail to confirm if this communication or the "intelligence" involves AI or ML algorithms for decision-making or data processing beyond simple communication protocols.
No.
This device is designed to staple and divide tissue during surgery, which is a procedural function rather than a therapeutic one as it does not treat or cure a disease.
No
Explanation: The device is described as surgical stapling equipment used for tissue transection, resection, and creation of anastomoses. Its function relates to treatment and physical manipulation of tissue, not diagnosis.
No
The device description clearly outlines physical components like staples, cartridges, and loading units, and the performance studies include bench tests, in vivo/ex vivo tests, and electrical/EMC testing, all indicative of a hardware device. While there is mention of "Intelligent" communication, the core function and description are centered around mechanical stapling.
No, this device is not an IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic).
Here's why:
- Intended Use: The intended use clearly describes a surgical device used for resection and creation of anastomosis in various surgical procedures. This involves physically manipulating and joining tissues within the body.
- Device Description: The device description details a surgical stapler system that places staples and divides tissue. This is a mechanical surgical tool.
- Lack of Diagnostic Function: There is no mention of the device being used to examine specimens (like blood, urine, or tissue samples) in vitro (outside the body) to provide information for diagnosis, monitoring, or treatment.
- Performance Studies: The performance studies focus on the mechanical and functional aspects of the stapler (staple formation, cutting, forces, hemostasis, etc.) and its biocompatibility and electrical safety, not on diagnostic accuracy or analytical performance.
IVD devices are specifically designed to perform tests on samples taken from the human body to provide diagnostic information. This device is a surgical instrument used directly on the patient during a procedure.
