The BroadMaster HealthCare System is a software accessory that helps in the review, analysis, and evaluation of patient data to support diabetes management, but it does not directly treat or cure the condition.
No
The device is a software accessory that aids in the review, analysis, and evaluation of patient glucose data to support diabetes management. It does not perform a diagnostic function itself, but rather processes data from legally marketed glucose meters.
Yes
The device description explicitly states that the BroadMaster HealthCare System is "a software designed to collect user glucose raw data, analyze results... and save glucose raw data". It functions as a software accessory to existing glucose meters and is installed on a personal computer. There is no mention of any hardware component being part of the device itself.
Based on the provided information, the BroadMaster HealthCare System is not an IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic).
Here's why:
- IVD definition: IVDs are devices intended for use in vitro for the examination of specimens derived from the human body solely or principally for the purpose of providing information concerning a physiological or pathological state, or concerning a congenital abnormality, or to determine the safety and compatibility of transfused blood, or to monitor therapeutic measures.
- BroadMaster HealthCare System's function: The BroadMaster HealthCare System is a software accessory that receives, stores, analyzes, and displays data from legally marketed glucose meters. It aids in the review, analysis, and evaluation of patient data to support diabetes management. It does not perform any tests on specimens derived from the human body itself. The diagnostic measurement is performed by the glucose meter, which is the IVD.
- Intended Use: The intended use clearly states it's a software accessory to aid in the review, analysis, and evaluation of patient data from glucose meters.
In essence, the BroadMaster HealthCare System is a data management and analysis tool for information already generated by an IVD (the glucose meter). It doesn't perform the diagnostic test itself.
