The PTA (Progressive Tibial Alignment) external fixation system is a modular system with the components of: joints, bars, clamps or screws. Such components form a device indicated for reconstruction and corrections of bone segments of the human body. The PTA is for progressive realignment of the knee.
Device Description
The PTA has multiple components of metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories. It is designed for a progressive correction of the lower limb using tibial osteotomy. This device is composed of a main section of a bar and proximal distraction unit upon which are connected the clamps and grasping components. All components are made of either Aluminum alloy 7012 or Stainless steel, AISI 316 LVM, ISO 5832-1.
More Information

Not Found

No
The summary describes a mechanical external fixation system with no mention of software, algorithms, or any technology that would suggest AI/ML.

Yes
The device is used for "reconstruction and corrections of bone segments of the human body" and "progressive realignment of the knee," which are therapeutic interventions.

No

The device is an external fixation system used for reconstruction and progressive realignment of bone segments, specifically for the knee after tibial osteotomy. It does not perform any diagnostic function.

No

The device description explicitly states it has multiple components of metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories, indicating it is a hardware device.

Based on the provided information, this device is not an IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic).

Here's why:

  • Intended Use: The intended use is for "reconstruction and corrections of bone segments of the human body" and "progressive realignment of the knee." This describes a surgical device used on the body, not a device used to examine specimens from the body.
  • Device Description: The description details metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories used for external fixation and osteotomy. This is consistent with a surgical implant/device.
  • Lack of IVD Characteristics: There is no mention of analyzing biological specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.), performing tests in vitro (in a lab setting), or providing diagnostic information based on such analysis.

IVD devices are specifically designed to examine specimens obtained from the human body to provide information for diagnostic, monitoring, or compatibility purposes. This device clearly falls outside of that definition.

§ 888.3030 Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories.

(a)
Identification. Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.(b)
Classification. Class II.
