The summary describes a surgical tool (valvulotome) and contains no mention of AI, ML, image processing, or data analysis that would suggest the use of such technologies.
Yes
The device is designed to incise valve cusps in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) procedures, which is a medical intervention intended to treat a condition.
No
The device is designed to incise valve cusps during surgery, which is a therapeutic action, not a diagnostic one.
No
The device is described as a "Valvulotome," which is a surgical instrument used to incise valve cusps. This description strongly indicates a physical, hardware-based medical device, not a software-only one. The lack of any mention of software, algorithms, or digital processing further supports this conclusion.
No, this device is not an IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic).
Here's why:
- Intended Use: The intended use is to "incise the valve cusps of the graft in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) procedures." This is a surgical procedure performed directly on a patient's body.
- IVD Definition: In vitro diagnostics are tests performed on samples taken from the human body (like blood, urine, or tissue) to detect diseases, conditions, or infections.
The Geister Valvulotome is a surgical instrument used during a surgical procedure, not a test performed on a sample outside the body.

Dear Mr. Maser ::
We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act.
