Intended Use
Seal the pits and fissures in teeth
Device Story
PacSeal™ Pit & Fissure Sealant is a fluoride-releasing, light-cured acrylate resin; used by dental professionals to fill and seal pits and fissures in teeth. The device is supplied in a 1.2 mL pre-filled syringe. Upon application to etched enamel, the material is light-cured to harden, creating a physical barrier that prevents cavity formation. The device is used in a clinical dental setting. The output is a cured resin layer that protects the tooth surface, aiding in the prevention of dental caries.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. Performance evaluated against ISO 6874-2005 and ISO 4049-2009 standards. Metrics include depth of cure, compressive strength (181 MPa), diametral tensile strength, film thickness, flexural strength, light curing time (30 sec), and shear bond strength to etched enamel. Results demonstrate equivalence to predicate devices.
Technological Characteristics
Light-cured acrylate resin containing TEGDMA, BISGMA, UDMA, glass particle filler (0.18µm - 1.0µm), and photoinitiator. Delivery via 1.2 mL pre-filled syringe. Complies with ISO 6874-2005 (depth of cure, light curing time) and ISO 4049-2009 (flexural strength).
Indications for Use
Indicated for sealing pits and fissures in teeth to prevent cavities in patients requiring dental restorative procedures.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A pit and fissure sealant and conditioner is a device composed of resin, such as polymethylmethacrylate, intended for use primarily in young children to seal pit and fissure depressions (faults in the enamel) in the biting surfaces of teeth to prevent cavities.
