Intended Use

ZAN Lung-Function Lab is used to measure or monitor pulmonary function in adult and pediatric subjects during exercise (including diagnosis, training, and stress testing) or while at rest (including Spirometry, airway resistance, diffusion capacity, body plethysmography, nutritional assessment, and indirect cardiac output) for diagnosis, and other related activities.

Device Story

ZAN Lung-Function Lab is a PC-based system for professional pulmonary, cardiopulmonary exercise, and metabolic testing. Inputs include gas flow (pneumotachometry), airway pressure, diffusion gases (CO, CH4), and ventilatory gases (O2, CO2, N2). System uses a flow sensor, gas analyzers, and body plethysmograph to collect physiologic data. A proprietary PC program processes these inputs to calculate pulmonary parameters and capacities. Used in clinical settings by healthcare professionals to assess lung function, exercise capacity, and nutritional status. Output is displayed on a PC for clinician review to aid in diagnosis and patient management. Benefits include comprehensive pulmonary assessment and monitoring during rest or exercise.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical trials were conducted. Effectiveness was demonstrated through in-house and third-party bench testing, confirming performance meets or exceeds published American Thoracic Society requirements and competing units. Gas exchange was validated against a simulation system. Safety was confirmed via conformance to EN 60601-1 and EN 60601-1-2 standards.

Technological Characteristics

PC-based system; flow sensor (pneumotachometry, POM material); infrared absorption for CO, CH4, and CO2; optical spectrometer for O2; body plethysmograph (aluminum/glass). Connectivity via PC. Power: 120V, 60Hz. Applied part: Type BF. Enclosure ratings: IPX0/IPX1. Software-based data calculation.

Indications for Use

Indicated for adult and pediatric patients to measure or monitor pulmonary function during exercise or at rest for diagnosis, training, and stress testing. Includes spirometry, airway resistance, diffusion capacity, body plethysmography, nutritional assessment, and indirect cardiac output.
