Intended Use
The Worldwide Medical Technologies Readi-Strand intended use is to provide a carrier for radionuclide seeds during the introduction of radionuclide seeds into the body for Brachytherapy procedures. The anatomical site is typically the transperineal approach in and around the prostate gland.
Device Story
Readi-Strand functions as a delivery vehicle for radionuclide seeds; used during brachytherapy procedures. Device acts as a carrier to facilitate precise placement of radioactive seeds into the prostate gland via transperineal approach. Operated by physicians (e.g., radiation oncologists, urologists) in clinical or surgical settings. Device holds seeds in fixed positions to ensure accurate dose distribution within target tissue. Benefits include improved seed spacing and simplified implantation process compared to loose seed placement.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided; bench testing only.
Technological Characteristics
Radionuclide brachytherapy source carrier; designed for transperineal prostate implantation. Materials are biocompatible and suitable for permanent or temporary implantation. Device form factor is a strand/carrier designed to hold multiple radioactive seeds at specified intervals. Non-electronic, mechanical device.
Indications for Use
Indicated for use as a carrier for radionuclide seeds during brachytherapy procedures, specifically for transperineal implantation in and around the prostate gland.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A radionuclide brachytherapy source is a device that consists of a radionuclide which may be enclosed in a sealed container made of gold, titanium, stainless steel, or platinum and intended for medical purposes to be placed onto a body surface or into a body cavity or tissue as a source of nuclear radiation for therapy.
Special Controls
*Classification.* Class II (special controls). A prostate seeding kit intended for use with a radionuclide brachytherapy source only is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to the limitations in § 892.9.
